Folorunsho Alakija: The making of Africa’s richest female entrepreneur

By Ethelbert Obinna Umeh

I am pleased to present to you our celebrity of this month of July. She is no other person but Folorunsho Alakija. I have never
met her in person, all the information I know about her were gotten from the internet.

She is Africa’s richest feminine entrepreneur, and thrives with an estimated net worth of $2.2 billion. No wonder, she is seen as the wealthiest female entrepreneur. A large chunk of her money was made from the oil business.

Mrs Folorunsho Alakija is a Nigerian. She is a skilled entrepreneur, who has never ended up in bankruptcy or in tears. She seems to have a Midas touch.

Through act of hard work and resilience, Folorunsho Alakija has been able to develop her FAMFA oil into a formidable brand. Her deep approach to maximising skills, capital, and technical expertise is second to none.

She is a true African lioness, a trail blazing entrepreneur. I am using her story to challenge everyone reading this to develop their entrepreneurial skills. She made her money through oil.

Oil is not the only way one can make money; some make theirs through public speaking, mining, ecommerce stores, and so on.  So, don’t think oil is the only way you can make millions of money. The richest African man, Dangote is in cement and sugar.

Gender is not a barrier. She is a visionary woman. I was reading about her the other day when Forbes was pouring encomiums on her. I was totally inspired. Reading such stories also can inspire a lot of women.

With the way things are going in Africa, women will soon lead in the ‘MONEY GAME’ soonest. I can see some of them rising on daily basis.

When preparations meet opportunity, it is survival says an unknown sage. We should stick to hard work, and excellent pursuits of our dreams.

Sex is never a barrier. Heaven helps only those who are ready to help themselves. I have never read a story about heaven helping someone who just folded her hands.

Mrs Folorunsho Alakija was one of the women that worked hard on her way to success, and with strong determination she was able to reach the mountain top. She met so many dark moments, yet she never despaired.

She took many realistic risks, and those risks paid off at the end of the day. When she started, maybe she never intended to be the richest female entrepreneur some day; instead she pursued her dreams with perseverance. Today, she is celebrated anywhere she goes.

Well-done Madam Folorunsho Alakija!
Feeling inspired here!!
Believe you can do it!!!
